G.R.O.W.
Spring Valley Farm started out of a desire to share farm life with others. In addition to owning and running Spring Valley Farm with her husband, Jen is a certified PK-12 School Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and California. She is also a Nationally Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors and a Licensed Professional Counselor in PA. Jen has worked in the fields of mental health, substance abuse, and education, with children and adolescents for over 25 years.
“When we bought our farm 10 years ago, the desire to share it with others was one of our considerations. We didn’t know what that would look like, or how we could do it, but slowly it was revealed our farm could be a place of healing for children and adolescents. In particular, kids who do/did not respond to traditional sit-down methods of therapy. If anything, kids need to move as they learn and grow."
"I also feel children do better when working together than individually at most ages. Clients can start with group work and then during that time be assessed for more individual 1:1 work with me. There are always considerations, so please feel free to read below about G.R.O.W."
Groups will begin in Spring and Summer. Spring groups will meet 1x/week and for summer groups, we will have two sessions Tuesday - Thursday, in two week increments. Dates and times will be listed below.
Now as part of the journey we are happy to introduce you to G.R.O.W. Therapy services at Spring Valley Farm. So aptly named, G.R.O.W. stands for:
G: Gratitude
Encouraging clients to practice gratitude helps them shift focus from what's going wrong to what is going right in their lives. It’s a simple yet effective way to nurture a positive mindset.
R: Resilience
Building resilience allows children and adolescents to develop the tools to cope with setbacks, adapt to challenges, and recover from difficult situations. This is critical in helping them manage stress and maintain a sense of well-being.
O: Optimism
Helping clients develop an optimistic outlook, fosters hope and positivity. With optimism, they learn to see possibilities instead of obstacles, a mindset that supports growth and healthier responses to challenges.
W: Wellness
Promoting wellness encompasses all aspects of physical, mental, and emotional health. It could include learning about healthy coping strategies, mindfulness, nutrition, movement, and relaxation to foster a balanced life.
Group Description:
GROW: A 6-session Mindset & Resilience Building Group
At GROW, I believe that every child and adolescent has the capacity to bloom and thrive, even in the face of life's challenges. Through guided activities on our flower farm, we’ll explore the four pillars of growth: Gratitude, Resilience, Optimism, and Wellness. Each week, participants will engage in therapeutic exercises, mindfulness practices, and nature-based activities designed to cultivate a positive mindset, strengthen emotional resilience, and reduce stress.
In this group, we create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their emotions, build confidence, and learn tools to enhance their mental health. Whether tending to flowers or working through therapeutic activities, the experience of being in nature will enhance their journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
What Clients Will Achieve in 6 Sessions:
By the end of the 6-session program, clients will:
- Cultivate Gratitude: Develop a habit of recognizing and appreciating the positive aspects of their lives, fostering a sense of joy and contentment.
- Build Resilience: Gain tools to bounce back from setbacks and build confidence in their ability to handle life’s challenges.
- Develop Optimism: Learn how to shift their mindset to see the potential in every situation, reducing stress and promoting a more hopeful outlook.
- Nurture Overall Wellness: Build an understanding of self-care and mental wellness, equipping them with the skills needed to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
This group provides a chance for children and adolescents to find their inner strength, connect with others, and grow alongside the plants they nurture, cultivating not only flowers but also their own well-being.
G.R.O.W. Therapy groups and individual sessions are not through insurance. I want people to have the choice in who they see and how they handle healing. I do offer payment plans and options for those who qualify. Please reach out to jennifer.v.way@gmail.com for more info. To sign up for our upcoming groups, click here.
