Q+A
Here are some Q+A's regarding G.R.O.W.
1. Is GROW only for kids who need therapy, or have diagnoses?
Answer: No - my goal for GROW is it's for all kids. It is beneficial for kids who have difficulties, struggle with self-esteem, anxiety, (etc.) and have diagnoses, but it is also beneficial for kids who would enjoy enrichment over the summer months. At GROW everything is hands-on, clients are moving, working together, and enjoying the farm through structured activities.
2. What is the purpose of the GROW group therapy program?
Answer: The purpose of the GROW group therapy program is to help children and adolescents develop a positive mindset and emotional resilience through four key pillars: Gratitude, Resilience, Optimism, and Wellness. By engaging in therapeutic activities and nature-based exercises, participants learn valuable tools to navigate life’s challenges, reduce stress, and nurture their mental, emotional, and physical health. Our goal is to help them thrive, both individually and as part of a supportive group.
3. How is the GROW program different from traditional therapy?
Answer: GROW combines traditional therapeutic techniques with nature-based activities, providing a holistic approach to mental well-being. Unlike traditional therapy that may be conducted indoors or in a more structured setting, GROW utilizes the calming and healing power of nature. Participants engage with the natural environment on our flower farm, tending to plants and practicing mindfulness, which enhances their connection to the process of self-growth and emotional healing.
4. What age group is this program designed for?
Answer: The GROW program is designed for children and adolescents, typically ranging from ages 8 to 18. It’s ideal for young people who may be facing challenges like stress, anxiety, or a lack of confidence, or those who simply want to build a stronger foundation for emotional well-being. All kids would benefit from GROW groups.
5. What kind of activities will my child participate in during the program?
Answer: Each week, your child will participate in a variety of activities designed to nurture personal growth and well-being. These include therapeutic exercises, mindfulness practices, and nature-based activities such as flower gardening, journaling, and group discussions. These activities help foster a positive mindset, build emotional resilience, and provide a space for self-expression and reflection.
6. How can I expect my child to benefit from the program?
Answer: By the end of the 6-week program, your child will have developed valuable tools to handle life’s challenges. They will be able to:
- Cultivate gratitude and focus on the positive aspects of life.
- Build resilience and confidence in their ability to overcome setbacks.
- Develop an optimistic outlook, seeing possibilities instead of obstacles.
Nurture their overall wellness, learning healthy coping strategies and self-care practices. - These skills will help them improve their emotional well-being and enhance their ability to thrive both socially and academically.
7. What is the group size, and how are the groups structured?
Answer: The GROW program is designed for small group sizes to ensure personalized attention and a supportive environment. Groups typically consist of 6 to 8 participants, allowing for meaningful connections and group discussions. Each session is structured to include a balance of individual reflection, group activities, and hands-on nature-based exercises, with a focus on building trust and community within the group.
